Harnessing the Power of the Past for a Brighter Future

Is there an age or year of your life you would re-live?

The question is both complex and simple at the same time. In reality, as humans, we are constantly revisiting the past in various ways. However, in order to build a brighter future, it is important to acknowledge and learn from both the good and bad experiences of our past.

From a healing perspective, it is necessary to revisit and relive some past events in order to shift the stuck emotions and energy. This is how transformation happens.

Let’s take a look at the hero’s journey (Campbell, 2012) of healing past trauma, which is about acknowledging and integrating the experiences in order to move forward and create positive change in one’s life.

The first stage of the journey, known as the “Call to Adventure,” occurs when the person realizes that they need to confront and heal from their trauma.

Next, they enter the “Threshold” stage, where they make a commitment to face their trauma head-on. This could involve seeking therapy or counselling, joining support groups, or engaging in self-reflection and introspection.

The “Road of Trials” stage represents the challenges and obstacles the person encounters while healing. This could include revisiting painful memories, confronting fears and anxieties, and working through deep emotional pain. It may involve reprocessing the trauma, understanding its impact, and learning healthy coping mechanisms.

The “Transformation” stage represents the individual’s growth and progress in healing past trauma. They begin to develop resilience, self-awareness, and a newfound strength. They may gain a deeper understanding of themselves, find forgiveness, and let go of the pain that held them back.

Finally, the person returns to the world transformed, entering the “Return” stage. They have integrated their healing journey into their life.

This is my take on reliving the past for healing purposes.

On the other hand, reliving the past through the happy days, years, and moments is a wonderful practise. Recreating the positive memories from our past allows us to relive the happy moments and bring their essence into the present. By engaging ourselves in these memories, we can tap into the joy, happiness, or other positive emotions associated with them. This practise of reliving and embracing past experiences can become a part of our daily gratitude routine, reminding us of the blessings and moments that have brought us happiness in our lives.
